Ultrasound Guided Procedures:

In partnership with Armidale Ultrasound since 2023 I have performed over 1500 ultrasound guided procedures with their skilled sonographers. I perform the following procedures:

  • Corticosteroid Injections: A mixture of long acting local anaesthetic and corticosteroid is injected into areas of inflammation often identified on an initial diagnostic ultrasound. I able able to treat the following conditions.

    • Inflammation in Large Joints: Corticosteroid can be injected for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions of the shoulders, hips and knees. Common sites on injection are the subacromial bursae, the troachanteric bursae and the suprapatellar bursae. The joint itself can also be injected for the treatment of osteoarthritis.

    • Inflammation in Small Joints: Corticosteroid can be injected into the smaller joints of the wrists and fingers as well as the ankles and feet. Common sites of injection are osteoarthritis in the thumbs, carpal tunnel, trigger finger, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis in the toes, Morton’s Neuroma or retrocalcaneal bursitis.

    • Please note I do not do spinal injections.

  • Joint Aspiration: Fluid can build up in joints as a result of trauma and chronic inflammation which can cause significant discomfort. Using ultrasound guidance fluid can be drained to provide pain relief and can sometimes be followed by a corticosteroid injection. This is use to treat joint effusions, Baker’s Cysts, ganglion cysts etc. Often the fluid is sent away for analysis at a local pathology lab.

  • Other Injections: I am able to inject other substances into joints for the treatment of osteoarthtisis e.g. Synvysc
